Product Reviews: Leatherman 80080003 Squirt P4, Storm |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Like crack for a gadget geek Comments: This thing is great. I love my Leatherman 830160 Surge Pocket Multitool with Leather Sheath, however this1fits on my key chain. It goes ewhere with me. If you are an engineer with1of these little things, you see the world in a different way: ething is something to be grabbed, poked, turned or cut with your Leatherman. My only regret is that it does not have a great size phillips head. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Squirt vs Micra Comments: I love this little Leatherman!! I have had mine attached to my keys for about 3 years and it is still going strong. I have the "S4" version with the scissors instead of pliers. When I saw that someone said the Micra was a better value, I had to come to the defense of the Squirt. Take it from someone who knows, the Squirt far surpasses the value of the Micra. I had gone through 2 Micras before I found the Squirt.
--Scissors Spring-- Micra - After a month or2it was so gummed up that the scissors would stay shut and would not open on their own. This was main reason I went through them so quick. Squirt - Still springing after years, much more force behind this one.
--Scissor Grip-- Micra - When doing some serious cutting, the sharp metal frame and tools will start to slice into your hand. Squirt - Thicker frame to house the tools on the outside lessens so it will not hurt your hand.
--Paint-- Micra - Start to flake and chip off after a month or so. (If you had to get one, get the stainless steel finish) Squirt - Storm gray paint has scratched off however no big flakes like the Micra. The paint is bound to go through some serious wear and tear when on a keychain so some scratches are to be expected.
--Size-- Micra - Small Squirt - Smaller
If you were thinking of getting the Micra, spend the extra 5 bucks and get a knife that is 5 times better. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: Great Keychain Companion Comments: After owning mine for a couple of months now, I have to say that I am thoroughly pleased with this multi-tool. I had previously questioned how much use I'd actually get out of it (I have been living the 1st 22 years of my life without one), however I have to say that I find myself using it at least 2-3 times a week (I am a programmer/developer, so it wouldn't seem like I'd have that much use for it).
The design is nice in that it's compact, sturdy, and really not that heavy. The whole thing, when folded up, is barely (just barely) wider than my thumb.
It contains a total of 7 tools: 1. Blade. ** sharp. I often use it to cut open that annoying plastic packaging that's sealed around the edges that's popular now with electronics.
2. File. Haven't used it yet, however it's large and has2different textures. Too coarse for filing my nails ;)
3. Small Screw Driver. Perfect size for tightening screws on the frames of my glasses.
4. Letter Opener. Heh, I typically use the blade :)
5. "Single Axis"/Compact Philips Head Screw Driver. I questioned how well this design would work at 1st, however it saved me quite a bit of time once when I was installing a door knob and realized that I had forgotten to bring a Phillips head screw driver and my cordless drill's battery died.
6. Flat Head Screw Driver/Bottle Opener. Both useful.
7. Pliers. I have had trouble getting myself to exert a lot of pressure on it in fear of snapping it, however it seems sturdy. When you open the pliers, there is a nice satisfying mechanical "snap snap" :) Excellent for manipulating small objects. The "spring" mechanism has an excellent feel to it.
Overall, a great tool that you will find yourself using more than you think you would. I think a tool of this size is better for the average Joe whereas a bigger, more comprehensive multi-tool would server powerusers better. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: best Comments: I gave a pair of these, with the pliers, to my husband for his birthday. He loves them!! He uses them all the time and they are sturdy!! The best part is Leatherman has a lifetime warranty if something happens to break. |
Rating: 5 (out of 5) Summary: A tool kit in your pocket!! What's not to like? Comments: I own the model with the pliers. This thing is a lifesaver!! I work in a library - a pretty tame place, tool-wise - however no matter where you work, you seldom go long without needing a tool of some kind. Ninety-nine percent of the time, you will not need anything that isn't on the Squirt.
All the tools on the Squirt are top quality. My favorites are the steel file and the excellent pliers. These are tools that, when you need them, you often REALLY need them, and it's great to have them in your pocket!! |
